Work continues on Watsonville High cafeteria

Work continues on the major rebuild of the Watsonville High cafeteria and multipurpose room.

I saw on the morning news that one of five people has Covid-19 in Florida. Officials in that state were among the first to rush into reopening, claiming the lockdown was hurting business. Indeed, some of the numbers around the nation are staggering: Texas 241,000 cases and 3,048 deaths; Arizona 113,000 cases with 2,047 deaths; Florida 244,000 cases and 4,101 deaths.

Locally, Santa Cruz County has 502 cases. Monterey County has 2,270 and San Benito County 304. Tuesday featured the largest single-day surge in cases across the nation: a whopping 54,000. Seven states reported their highest single-day surge the same day.

Eighty-two kids came down with Covid-19 in Arkansas after attending a summer camp.

There is now a coronavirus surge being reported in Tulsa where President Trump held a campaign rally in June. Health officials reported 266 new Covid-19 cases Wednesday, a little over two weeks after the indoor rally.

I noticed there is a new market coming to Watsonville. La Condesa Market has a large banner draped across the front of the empty space that used to be the Salvation Army store near Big 5 and Baskins Robbins in the Pajaro Plaza on South Green Valley Road. No opening date was posted.

I went into the Starbucks on Main Street in the Overlook Shopping Center Thursday. I found their system for safely getting in and out with your beverage or treat worked well. You wait in line at 6-feet apart and when your order is done they have it waiting at another counter with arrows on the floor aiming the way out the door. Easy.
