I recently visited Farley’s Christmas Wonderland at 108 Seaview Ave. in Santa Cruz to witness, by far, the most amazing residential Christmas display. For years it has been a major draw for the public with more than 30 fully decorated Christmas trees, miniature snowy village scenes, an elf village, life-size carolers, a log cabin,a fairy garden, and tons more. The free, outdoor walk-thru has its final day on New Year’s Day from 5:30-8pm. It’s worth it.

I photographed Watsonville firefighters getting coronavirus vaccination shots today. About 400 firefighters from around the county are lining up to get the dose over an 8-day block.
As the year winds down and yet another annual tradition gets shelved because of the pandemic, I’m hanging a lot of hope on the impact of the vaccinations being administered around the globe and here at home.

Worldwide there are 81.89 million cases of Covid-19 with 1.79 deaths. California has 19.5 cases and 338,632 cases. Santa Cruz County has 8,310 cases and 83 deaths. These numbers are staggering. I still keep coming back to our leadership and how President Trump seemed to steer away from tackling the problem, with an ambiguous approach to mask wearing, and having Rose garden events that turned into superspreader events. Trump even toured a mask masling company and never put on a mask during the tour.

Let’s hope we get through New Year’s celebrations safely and start the New Year as safely as possible.
