WATSONVILLE—Diamond Technology Institute (Diamond Tech) in Watsonville has been awarded a top award for its programming promoting college and career readiness.

The school is the recipient of a Gold Medal for its work with the Career Choices series curriculum and My10yearPlan.com. The school’s Career Choices program aims to help students, starting in their ninth grade year, to create 10-year plans for their future education and career goals.

Diamond Tech is among 22 schools across the nation that have been awarded a Career Choices Medal for the 2020–2021 school year.

The 2020–21 academic year brought many unprecedented challenges to the education sector, including the temporary shift to remote instruction and the increased need to attend to students’ social-emotional health.

“This medal means that despite the detours and roadblocks the year presented, [Diamond Technology Institute] went above and beyond in their commitment to supporting student success and improving college and career readiness,” said Brianne Navarrete, a representative for Academic Innovations, the publisher of the Career Choices series curriculum.

Laurel Ortez, another representative for Academic Innovations, said that Diamond Tech teachers and administrators behind the program worked “diligently” throughout this past year of challenges to keep students focused on the future and working toward achieving their goals.

“This award is our way of acknowledging those efforts and the positive impact these educators left on their students, school and community,” Ortez said. “It’s a great accomplishment that requires solid leadership, top-notch teachers, and a lot of hard work from everyone involved, especially in the 2020–21 school year.”
