WATSONVILLE—A Watsonville woman was arrested Monday for causing a major injury while driving under the influence of alcohol, California Highway Patrol officer Sam Courtney said.

Maia Cahill, 46, was charged with DUI causing injury. She was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail, jail records showed.

According to Courtney, Cahill was driving northbound on Trabing Road around 12:20 a.m. when she lost control of her 1998 Ford F-150, left the roadway and overturned, landing on northbound Highway 1.

Her passenger, a 51-year-old man, was ejected and suffered major injuries. He was taken to Natividad Medical Center.
