Watsonville Police are looking for a couple that scammed a woman out of thousands of dollars after claiming to have a winning lottery ticket they couldn’t cash in.

Surveillance footage shows the man and woman approaching the victim in a shopping center parking lot on the 1400 block of Freedom Boulevard on Oct. 11.

The couple convinced the woman to hand over nearly $6,000 for the lottery ticket after claiming they were unable to cash it because of their legal status, Watsonville Police spokeswoman Michelle Pulido said.

The male suspect was wearing a gray hat and shirt, while the female suspect was wearing a white hat. Both are seen leaving in what appears to be a silver Chrysler Pacifica.

“If it seems too easy and you’re going to get rich quick, don’t do it because it’s a scam,” said WPD Sgt. Mish Radich.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Nelson Hernandez at 768-3358.
