SANTA CRUZ COUNTY — Voters throughout Santa Cruz County and across the U.S. headed to their polling places Tuesday in a much-anticipated election that could shift control of the House and Senate.

Locally and statewide, voters are deciding on measures that will affect transportation, healthcare, housing and animal welfare.

Polling places close at 8 p.m.
