WATSONVILLE—Pajaro Valley Unified School District Trustee Jennifer Schacher, who has held the Trustee Area 5 seat since she was elected in 2018, has closed the gap between herself and opponent Olivia Flores since early returns began to come in Tuesday night.

Flores is ahead by 66 votes, giving her just over 52% of 1,410 votes, according to updated results released Friday afternoon. That has changed by roughly 20 votes since Tuesday.

Trustee Area 1 incumbent Kim De Serpa, meanwhile, has garnered 63.7% of the vote over opponent Natalain Schwartz, the updated results show, a gap that the challenger will likely not overcome before the results are certified next month.

Meanwhile, Marcus Pimentel and Joe Gallagher are the top-two vote-getters for the newly formed Pajaro Valley Healthcare District, the organization tasked with overseeing Watsonville Community Hospital. The remaining board members will face reelection in 2024.
