Four F-15C Eagle fighter jets blasted across the skies of Watsonville, Santa Cruz and around the state Wednesday as part of a flyover tribute to health care workers, first responders and others on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic. The California Air National Guard’s 144th Fighter Wing out of Fresno flew over medical facilities in the San Joaquin Valley, Sacramento, the Bay Area, Santa Cruz and Watsonville, before heading to Southern California, the Central Valley and then looping back to Fresno. At Dominican, numerous employees lined the entranceway wearing masks and hospital attire to watch the aerial display, which lasted about 30 seconds.

There is a slight chance of showers today. The Monterey Bay took in several doses of rain earlier this week, which was heavy at times. It was good to see our area get that fresh blanket of rain. Forecasters with the National Weather Service of Monterey say there’s still more rain on tap, coming as early as Saturday afternoon and possibly lingering Sunday and into Monday.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, offered blunt warnings to a Senate panel Tuesday about moving too fast into reopening the country during the Covid-19 outbreak. He said that a rush to reopen could trigger “an outbreak you would not be able to control.” He and other medical officials, however, said there was encouraging progress across the country, though there are now 1.4 million cases of the virus in the U.S. Fauci’s warning comes a day after President Trump offered a rosier picture in the White House Rose Garden by declaring “we have met the moment and we have prevailed.” Trump went onto state that the U.S. leads the world in the amount of testing. But officials were quick to weigh in that Trump was wrong in that several other countries were far out in front of the U.S. as far as testing. Dr. Fauci went said that the U.S. still lacked critical testing capacity and the skills to trace the contacts of people infected.
Former presidential candidate and current Senator Mitt Romney said: “I find our testing record nothing to celebrate whatsoever.”
