WATSONVILLE—Three Watsonville men were arrested Tuesday after they were found with a backpack full of illegal drugs, Watsonville Police spokeswoman Michelle Pulido said.

Alexis Colunga, 18, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and participating in a criminal street gang. Moises Fernandez, 21, faces drug, theft and gang charges. Both were booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $25,000.

A third suspect, Eduardo Magaña, was not in custody Thursday, jail records showed.

According to Pulido, Officers were patrolling the levee near Main Street when they spotted a group of men with open beer containers Tuesday afternoon.

As officers approached, the group took off running. During the short foot pursuit, the suspects attempted to get rid of their guns. Officers eventually detained the suspects and located their guns following an area search.

The officers found three guns, 126 grams of methamphetamine, 38 grams of heroin and prescription pills.
