Framing construction is underway on The Hideout restaurant that sustained massive damage in a fire in May 2019. Workers from Costa Bella Builders are continuing work on the exterior walls of the eatery, which is nestled beneath a canopy of redwoods at 9051 Soquel Drive between Rio del Mar and Freedom boulevards.

Governor Gavin Newsom announced Monday the closure of indoor operations at restaurants, bars, wineries, movie theaters, family entertainment, zoos, museums and cardrooms statewide. He also announced 30 counties needed to shut down indoor operations for hair salons, nail salons, other personal care services, gyms, malls, places of worship, and more.
The announcement came as Covid-19 cases continue to surge in California, Florida, Texas and Arizona. In California, there have been nearly 321,000 infections, as of Sunday, with 7,042 dead.
As of Sunday night, there have been 567 Covid-19 cases in Santa Cruz County. Monterey County has reported 2,682 cases and San Benito County has seen 362.

Five businesses sustained major damage in a huge blaze that erupted Sunday afternoon in Hollister. The incident is still under investigation. Meanwhile, officials say the Crews Fire in Gilroy is now about 95% contained with full containment expected Thursday. The wildland fire blackened more than eight square miles.

A huge explosion and fire broke out aboard the U.S.S. Bonhomme Richard Navy, an amphibious assault ship in San Diego. Around 20 sailors were injured. The fire erupted around 6:30am Sunday at San Diego Naval Base. The Navy said 57 sailors and civilian personnel were aboard the ship at the time of the fire. The cause is under investigation.

At the Monterey County Jail, 68 inmates and one staff member have tested positive for Covid-19.

In Salinas masks are now mandatory with a $100 fine for not doing so.
