Suspect in recent Watsonville murder case arrested

WATSONVILLE—Watsonville Police on Tuesday arrested a Watsonville man for a fatal shooting near Ramsay Park from last year.

Julio Sanchez, 22, has been charged with murder. He was already in custody in Santa Cruz County Jail for vehicle theft and other charges. He is being held without bail, jail records showed.

Sanchez is accused of shooting and killing a 26-year-old man on Main Street and Pennsylvania Drive on Oct. 24, 2020.

During that night, WPD officers responded to three shootings that resulted in two deaths, department spokeswoman Michelle Pulido said.

The Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team (SCCACT) helped with the investigation. SCCACT is a multi-agency unit featuring several law enforcement offices in Santa Cruz County.

Sanchez confessed to the killing, Pulido said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Det. Ruben Zendejas at 706-5321.
