SANTA CRUZ—Staff of Life, a popular natural foods market in Santa Cruz for more than 50 years, announced Monday that an employee tested positive for Covid-19.

“We have made the decision to temporarily close after learning a member of our staff has been diagnosed with Covid-19,” the store announced through its social media. “We immediately notified the Santa Cruz Public Health Department and our store staff and we are taking all necessary steps to safeguard the health and well being of our employees and customers.”

The closure at the market, 1226 Soquel Ave., started Monday. They plan to reopen Wednesday.

Staff of Life, which is opening another location in Watsonville’s East Lake Village Shopping Center, has taken measures to combat the spread of the pandemic, including requiring face masks, six-foot marking at the store entrance and at checkout stands and monitoring the number of shoppers inside the store.
