WATSONVILLE—Watsonville police on Wednesday arrested a man suspected of firing several shots at an occupied vehicle parked on Rio del Pajaro Court on June 18.

Jibril Dalmar Abdi

Jibril Dalmar Abdi was arrested at his residence on Blackbird Circle. He has been charged with attempted murder, burglary and assault. He is being held in Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $675,000 bail, jail records showed.

The arrest, which prompted a shelter-in-place order for residents of Blackbird Circle, came with help from the Santa Cruz Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit.

Abdi is accused of firing several shots at a Watsonville man who was sitting in a parked car during a botched robbery attempt, WPD spokeswoman Michelle Pulido said. The victim was struck once and managed to drive himself to the hospital. He is now recovering from his injury.

Abdi has a prior firearms conviction and is on active probation for that offense.
