The St. Francis High football team is currently the lone undefeated team in the entire Pacific Coast Athletic League this season.
They’re hoping to keep it that way as the Sharks (7-0, 3-0) get ready to take on King City in Cypress Division action Saturday afternoon.
Senior running back Diego Wolfe continues to be backbone in the Sharks’ rushing attack. He’s recorded 558 rushing yards on 53 carries and 14 touchdowns this season, according to MBayPreps.com.
Wolfe had 87 rushing yards on 11 carries and four touchdowns in a crushing 48-26 win over Rancho San Juan (6-2, 2-2) in league play Oct. 15.
“It was a really fun game and our guys did what they’ve done this season,” St. Francis coach John Ausman said. “They came out, executed the plan and had a lot of fun doing it, and we did it for each other. It was good.”
Senior quarterback Kyle Dyer completed 10-of-15 pass attempts for 127 yards and two touchdowns—one passing and one rushing.
“It’s a great win,” he said. “When you take out a team like that, of course, you gain some confidence. But we were already confident in ourselves.”
RSJ senior tailback Peyton Hatten finished with a game-high 190 yards rushing on 35 carries and three touchdowns.
RSJ tallied 282 yards rushing on 52 carries, but the running backs also lost two fumbles including a 40-yard scoop and score by St. Francis senior Nethaniel Madrigal-Hernandez.
Last week marked the return for Christian Magaña, who missed the Sharks’ first six games.
“I played every rep like it’s my last,” he said. “I had to make up for lost time and I gotta give it my all, every play.”
The junior receiver finished with five receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown along with a couple of big tackles on the defense.
Prior to his return, Magaña said he was the biggest cheerleader on the sideline, applauding for his teammates on their success.
“I felt like I was still part of the team,” he said. “I was sad at that time seeing my boys play but I was happy for them at the same time. It all worked out and I’m back healthy, ready to play.”
Magaña said their win over RSJ was huge, however, they have to stay humble and move on to the next game.
St. Francis will host King City (4-3, 2-1) in PCAL Cypress Division play Saturday at 12:30pm.
“Every week’s a different game,” Ausman said. “We’re 0-0 and you just have to enjoy the process, and continue going.”
