SANTA CRUZ — Serapio Mendoza Escoto died peacefully at his home in Santa Cruz on Saturday, July 29, 2017. He was 79.

Mr. Mendoza was born to Teodoro Mendoza and Jeronima Escoto in Jalisco, Mexico on Sept. 3, 1937. Before retiring he was employed at the Esperanza Market for 10 years He was a responsible hard worker who provided for his family. He was very loving to his wife and children but especially to his grandchildren. He loved to take long walks and enjoy the warm sun and nature. Mr. Mendoza was a man of faith, he was very devoted to his Catholic religion.

Mr. Mendoza is survived by his wife, Juana Mendoza of 62 years; six sons, Alfredo, Eraclio, Martin, Refugio, Jose de Jesus, and Johny Mendoza; two daughters, Maricela and Elvia Mendoza; 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Carlos Mendoza.

Visitation will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Thursday, Aug. 3, from 3-9 p.m. with the rosary recited at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Valley Catholic Church on Friday, Aug. 4 at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
