The Santa Cruz METRO bus system is maintaining regular schedules during the coronavirus crisis and they’ve bolstered their routine cleaning. They operate a fleet of 98 buses on 26 fixed routes.
“While we will try to provide as much service as possible, customers should consider using the METRO system for essential trips only, such as work and medical appointments,” said Alex Clifford, CEO of the Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District. “Please monitor email and text alerts and the METRO website daily for updates.”
On a public address system aboard the 69W route this morning I heard this announcement: “In the interest of public health, please maintain an arm’s length distance from others.”

Despite officials urging people to put social distancing into practice, beaches in Florida remain packed with hordes of celebrating students on spring break. In places like Chicago thousands continue to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the streets and in bars and pubs.
