The San Jose Earthquakes put on a show for the 43,774 fans in attendance at Levi’s Stadium in a 3-1 victory over LAFC in Major League Soccer action May 4.

Rodrigues scored in the fifth minute to give the Quakes a 1-0 lead going into halftime. Fellow teammate Amahl Pellegrino extended the lead with a score in the 55th, and Denis Bouanga was credited with goal in the 59th following an own goal scored by LAFC.

Cristian Olivera prevented the shut out with a goal scored for LAFC in the 69th.

“It was a really great experience to play a huge game like this in a huge stadium, envoy was amazing. People came to have a party and I think the team showed that each game lives [its] own lives.” said Amahl Pellegrino via the Earthquakes official website. “We haven’t been so good this season, but derby games are always different. It was a great response and it was cool to play this game. It was an important three points.”

The Quakes will host Oakland Roots SC in the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 at PayPal Park on May 7 at 7pm.

Bay FC falls to Portland Thorns FC

In National Women’s Soccer League action, Bay FC lost to Portland Thorns FC, 3-2, in front of a crowd of 10,611 at PayPal Park in San Jose on May 1.

Racheal Kundananji scored Bay FC’s first goal on an assist from Joelle Anderson in the 41st minute. Kundananji recorded an assist of her own on a pass to Deyna Castellanos which resulted in a goal in the 61st.
