Musicians, dancers and the public take part in a Mexican holiday tradition called La Rama Friday night in Watsonville Plaza. The first-ever such event in Watsonville was hosted by students in the dance class, Estrellas de Esperanza, taught by Ruby Vasquez. The purpose of La Rama is to bring the community together in a procession to share traditional songs, lyrics and dance steps. It started at the weekly Watsonville Certified Farmers Market and, after threading through the market, the procession moved to the nearby Youth Center. There, more music, dancing and pastry treats rounded out the rest of the festive evening.
