Nicolas Banez died at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, Nov. 2, 2018. He was 98.

Mr. Banez was born Dec. 2, 1919 to Lazaro and Luncia Banez in the Philippines. He arrived in the U.S. in 1973 to reunite with his wife Ramona of 67 years. Soon after, he worked in agriculture. He enjoyed making furniture, taking in stray animals, gardening, and working on his truck.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona; and daughter, Norma. He is survived by his children, Connie Isidro of Texas, Adelina Du of Aromas, Caridad Orejudos of Visalia, Nestor of Las Lomas, Bernardita De Mayo of Aromas, Joey of Aromas, Estrella Bayuga of Watsonville, and Robert of Salinas; 22 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Monday, Nov. 12 from 5-9 p.m. with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Mass will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery. Mehl’s Colonial Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
