WATSONVILLE — A new ice cream shop has opened in Watsonville that offers a high-end brand of ice cream popular in Mexico.

Stationed in Watsonville Square, the same center of Nob Hill and the CVS store, the locally owned Michoacán A Pedir de Boca swung open its doors just a week ago and is already hosting a steady stream of customers.

“I am so excited to be opening my shop here in Watsonville,” said shop owner Cecilia Fernández. “I want our customers to know that everything is made here on site and that we largely use locally grown produce like berries and apples. We are glad to bring this trademark brand to Watsonville.”

The business offers 36 flavors of ice cream and 46 flavors of gourmet paletas, or popsicles on top of about 10 sherbet flavors which are non-dairy. Michoacán A Pedir de Boca is now open seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“We’re happy to serve the community of Watsonville,” Fernández said. “We’re getting such a huge response. We hope people come by and sample our high quality ice cream.”

The business also offers a wide range of ice cream shop goodies like banana splits, floats, smoothies and milkshakes and a variety of popular Mexican snacks.

The business is located at 1862 Main St.
