A crew from Santa Cruz Signs was busy Tuesday installing signage for the new facility of Pajaro Valley Prevention and Student Assistance on East Lake Avenue at Brewington Avenue. PVPSA is a local nonprofit that aims to improve the quality of life of students and families in the Pajaro Valley by providing health education, counseling and prevention services, and by advocating for public policies that protect their health.
The organization broke ground on the $3.1 million project in September 2018. The new facility is an expansion of the existing PVPSA a few blocks west on East Lake and will serve as a central location for staff and space for an integrated behavioral health services. The new building will also feature a large conference room that can function as a community room, a space where other nonprofits can meet in large meetings. They will be celebrating a ribbon cutting opening ceremony Thursday at 1 p.m.

A Watsonville city worker was arrested recently for alleged sexual abuse on a youth. Watsonville police on Tuesday arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy.
Matthew Jimenez was charged with sodomy on a minor and oral copulation on a person under 16, both felonies. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, court records showed.
Jimenez was an employee with the Parks and Community Services Department. He worked at the Gene Hoularis and Waldo Rodriguez Youth Center.
