PITTSBURGH, Penn. – A gunman is in custody in Pittsburgh, Penn. after he reportedly burst into a synagogue heavily armed and opened fire on the congregation Saturday.

Pennsylvania State Police said on national news that the man shot at least 12 people including three police officers. Thus far eight people have been reported dead.

Police said the gunman has been taken into custody and was injured in the melee.
Heavily armed police swarmed the area and cordoned off streets.

The incident erupted after 11 a.m. The gunman was reported to have been armed with two handguns and an assault rifle.
