Marion Elizabeth Roberts passed away on November 14, 2018 at De Un Amor Care Facility in Corralitos where she resided for the last four years.
Marion was born October 5, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Henry and Philomena Christensen. She was one of five girls. The family moved to California when Marion was just a child, living first in Southern CA. They moved many times during Marion’s childhood. Her most memorable times as a child were in Turlock, CA. Ultimately the family settled in Salinas. This is where Marion met Melvin Roberts at a barn dance in Alisal. They were married on Feb. 8, 1947 and had five children. Marion was a stay-at-home mom and a homemaker. After several more moves Marion and Melvin settled in Watsonville. In their retirement years they were happiest traveling in their motorhome. One memorable trip was a two-month voyage with Mel’s sister Wanda and husband Roy cross-country in their motorhomes.
Marion had an enthusiastic appreciation for nature in all forms. She loved babies and children, played the harmonica, and could yodel. She loved music, especially country, and loved to dance. She was an avid gardener and always talked to her plants. She had a most amazing “green thumb.” Marion had a wonderful sense of humor and we will all miss her one-of-a-kind laugh and especially her free spirit which she shared often right up to the very end.
Marion is survived by her children: Philayna (John) Favero, Glenna (Mike) Mondelli, Coralene (Wes) Castaneda, Cy (Terene) Roberts, and Dana (Nathaniel) Guary. She loved her grandchildren, Tony Boggiatto (deceased), Jennifer Boggiatto, Bret Matulich, Kendria Roberts, Makenzi Roberts, Darcy Ward, Tyrell Abram, Ilonna Hunt, Asia Hunt as well as her thirteen great-grandchildren.
Marion joins her sisters and their spouses in heaven, Sylvia (Mac) McDaniel, Shirley (Lenny) Lang, and is survived by Henrietta Christensen, and Rose Marie (Mickey) Newsom.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at De Un Amor and Hospice of Santa Cruz for their loving care of our mother and support to the family. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to The Alzheimer’s Assoc. or to Marion’s favorite charity St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
