An ‘All Star Thank You’

To the Editor,

An “All Star Thank You” to the many team players that rallied to support the First Annual All Star Carnival at Ann Soldo Elementary on June 2. We want to thank the families, staff and local businesses that contributed to this wonderful event. The following businesses donated and are appreciated for their financial support: Driscoll’s, Fatima’s Jewelry, La Rosa, Imura, California Grill, Martinelli’s, Farmers Insurance (Dwight Lynn) on East Lake, Celebrations, Safeway and Mi Pueblo.

Crime stats show great results

To the Editor,

I am not surprised with the results we have this year on crime, remember we have the best police department in California. We continue to have great leadership, and have for many years. When you surround yourself with good personnel you will get results like we are seeing and have seen over the past few years.

There is no doubt that we need to continue to support and give both police and fire the funds and tools they need to keep our community safe. Good job and keep up the awesome work.

End school to prison pipeline

To the Editor,

Unfortunately, I fit this description: “School to incarceration,” getting kicked out of school, led to walking the streets, followed by arrest and as a minor sent to adult court.

In addressing the needs of “at-risk youth,” I will pinpoint two of the many alternatives to school detention. One, the student be required to participate in group activities such as sports or book clubs, thus the youth will feel a sense of acceptance and belonging to a larger group. Two, to have competent counselors who can explain the many obstacles an adolescent will encounter, and to emphasize the fact that acquiring an education is of utmost importance to a promising future.

Mistakes are the one thing adolescents do best. May God be with our youth, and us adults to guide them through avenues of far less difficulties.

Golf tournament a success

To the Editor,

The Ninth Annual Watsonville High Athletics Golf Tournament was played on Friday, June 16 and it was a great success. In addition to our many supporters enjoying a great day of golf and fellowship, important funds were raised for the boys and girls sports programs at Watsonville High School.

A special appreciation to everyone who helped make this event possible including Amy Preaseau, Jacques Preaseau and Bobby Powers of Spring Hills Golf Course, Principal Elaine Legorreta and Athletic Director Marcus Northcutt of Watsonville High, Dan Carrillo and staff of Pajaro Valley Printing, and Marketing Director Tina Chavez and Staff Photographer Tarmo Hannula of the Pajaronian. Also, thank you to all our golfers and sponsors who continue to support youth athletics through their attendance at this worthwhile event.

Please join us next June for the 10th installment of our golf tournament.
