letter to the editor pajaronian

Building a real bridge over Pajaro River on Murphy Crossing Road “needs to be an immediate priority,” according to an editorial in the Santa Cruz Sentinel.

I have advocated for building a real bridge over Pajaro River on Murphy Crossing Road by replacing the current small “bridge.” I went to measure the height between the bottom of the river and the bottom of the “bridge.” It is only a little more than 3 feet tall!

We can see a long line of tall (about 10 feet) metal fences along the river set up by a rancher on the Monterey County side. I am sure that the fences could prevent most of the fields from flooding. The first breach of the levee occurred beyond that place.

We can also see so many trees growing in the river. The small bridge and many trees in the river have prevented the water from flowing naturally.

Uhmmm, The trees are natural. It is the levy and other flood control systems that prevent the river from flowing “naturally”.

  2. I want to counter your article’s bleak picture for political action by Watsonville.
I and my family lived in Watsonville from 1944 to 1959 when I left after High School to get UC BerkeleyBA and law . I returned to I returned in 1989 and helped start a non profit Youth Work which got agrant to fund an instructor at Cabrillo to teach kds to construct homes for displaced homeowners after the 1089 Quake.
I returned this last March rto try to help again now with the levee breaks now because I was upset that these levees were still not fixed and breaking in the very place my family and I were threatened on Christmas Eve in 1955. I beieve the Watsonville City Council can be asked to get these levees fixed right now and forever with board community support and will
