Cabrillo College is fresh off its first American Golden Coast Conference victory, and will be looking for its second on Saturday at San Jose City College.
The Seahawks (4-3, 1-2) will play the Jaguars (1-6, 0-4) in San Jose at 1 p.m.
Here are a few things to watch on Saturday:
GRIN AND BARRON
Cabrillo freshman quarterback Josh Barron has the highest interception rate (13.5), and the second worst completion percentage (45.1) of any quarterback in the state with at least 100 passing attempts.
But he just shredded one of the stingiest defensive backfields in California, passing for 314 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in last week’s 40-17 win over Gavilan.
Despite his struggles, Barron has been a serviceable starter in place of sophomores Kendall Williams and Devon Daich, who were slated to compete for the starting spot heading into the fall.
BIG PLAY K
Freshman Kameron Pleasant has been one of Cabrillo’s most explosive weapons in the passing game over the last three weeks.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder has made 14 grabs for 364 yards and four touchdowns in that time. He is averaging 25.3 yards per reception for the season — the top mark in the state.
THREE AMIGOS
Cabrillo is the only team in the state with three running backs averaging more than five yards per rush.
Freshmen Cole Davis (6.4 yards per carry), Cory Glasgow (5.6) and Ladale Combs (5.3) have all been able to chew up yards on the ground this fall.
