Jane Jofuku passed away May 10, 2018 at the age of 88.
Jane was the second of three daughters born to a former Tokyo chef, Tsunekichi, and his wife, Hatsuko Amy. The family lived in Fresno, California, until their WWII internment first in Jerome, Arkansas, then in Tule Lake, California. Upon the family’s return to Fresno, Jane trained to become a beautician and worked as a hairdresser until meeting and marrying her husband, Kaz Jofuku; they were married 54 years.
Throughout their long marriage, the couple lived and worked in Watsonville, he in the strawberry shipping industry and she as an instructional aide for the PVUSD. They worked hard, lived quietly, and raised their children.
Upon her retirement in 1997 and Kaz’s passing in 2008, Jane became a devoted gardener and an even more devoted grandmother.
Jane is survived by her daughters, Diane, Kerry, and Tracey; her six grandchildren, Courtney, Lynne, Lily, Alex, Kimberly, and Matthew; her two great-grandchildren, Michael and Sarah; and her older sister, Yaeko.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 27 at 3pm at the Watsonville Buddhist Temple, 423 Bridge St., Watsonville. Arrangements are under the direction of Mehl’s Colonial Chapel.
