WATSONVILLE — Nita Gizdich, owner and founder of Gizdich Ranch, has been selected as the 2018 “Friend of Scouting.”
Every year the Skillicorn BBQ Committee honors an individual or an organization of the community that has supported Scouting in the Pajaro Valley. This year’s honoree, Gizdich, is being recognized for her support of Scouting and involvement in the community of Watsonville over the past 45 years.
Skillicorn BBQ is an annual fundraiser that supports the Boy Scouts of America’s programs of Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Venturing and Exploring in Aptos, Watsonville and the Pajaro Valley. Last year, the event raised $24,535 where all proceeds went to local Cub and Boy Scout programs. This provided summer camp scholarships to Camp Pico Blanco located in Big Sur.
Gizdich will also be recognized for her investment of time and energy to “make Watsonville a better community,” according to the Skillicorn BBQ Committee. She has supported Boy Scouts and other youth groups over the years through donations and working on projects on her farm and helping with fundraising at the Skillicorn BBQ.
Along with Gizidich’s recognition, seven young men will be recognized and honored for earning the rank of Eagle Scout in 2017.
The 2018 Skillicorn BBQ will be held on March 28 at the Corralitos Padres Hall, located at 35 Browns Valley Road in Corralitos.
The social gathering will start at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and the program at 7:45 p.m. Tickets are $100 for one person and $175 for two attendees.
