Santa Cruz County officials as of Friday morning had confirmed 34 COVID-19 cases.

Neighboring Monterey County, meanwhile, had 27 confirmed cases of the highly-contagious virus as of Friday morning. That county also announced that it had tested more than 400 residents.

There are a total of 3,801 positive cases and 78 deaths in the state, according to the California Department of Public Health.

Nationally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had more than 85,000 confirmed cases, though several media outlets have reported the number of cases in the U.S. has eclipsed 100,000.

Back in Santa Cruz County, UC Santa Cruz announced a student tested positive for COVID-19. That student is off-campus in self-isolation, UCSC Chancellor Cynthia Larive said.
