SANTA CRUZ — Santa Cruz County Sherriff’s deputies on Monday arrested two people after they were caught with copious amounts of drugs in a Santa Cruz motel room on the 1700 block of Soquel Avenue.

Paul Garcia, 30, and Allison Nault, 22, face numerous drug and weapon-related charges. They were booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.

According to Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Cleveland, Nault was on probation and Garcia had a warrant for his arrest when they were arrested.

In all, detectives found 3.75 pounds of various narcotics that included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, psilocybin “magic” mushrooms and prescription pills.

They also found more than $9,000 in cash, along with scales and packaging material.

The estimated street value of the narcotics is $102,000 dollars, Cleveland said.

In a prepared statement, Santa Cruz County Sheriff Jim Hart said that methamphetamine and heroin are “wreaking havoc in our community.”

“These drugs are tearing families apart and contributing to the escalating mental health crisis that we are experiencing,” Hart said. “The two suspects in this case were caught distributing large amounts of illicit drugs. Our narcotics team did a great job on this case and now it’s up to the District Attorney and the court to hold them accountable.”
