Volunteers help restore slough

Members of the Freedom Rotary Club joined Watsonville Wetlands Watch and other volunteers to help restore areas along West Struve Slough during Earth Day on Saturday. St. Francis presents theater production

WATSONVILLE — Students from St. Francis Central Coast Catholic High School will present “Damn Yankees” Thursday through Saturday in the school gym, 2400 East Lake Ave. in Watsonville, at 7:30 p.m.

The cast and crew of more than 30 includes St. Francis students from all grades, as extracurricular participants join with the Theatre Arts class.

St. Francis musical theater has an annual tradition of supporting a cause. All St. Francis students donate community service hours.
Senior thespian Riley Scherr proposed supporting Survivors Healing Center of the Central Coast as the post-show charity this year. It’s an organization that Scherr has been promoting throughout the year, to help end child abuse and support those affected by abuse. He did a presentation with the director at a St. Francis school assembly in the fall, had wristbands made, and has been selling those at school and throughout the community. Scherr has raised almost $1,000 for counseling services.

Tickets for the spring musical are available online at prepmo.com/p/st-francis-central-coast-catholic-tickets.

Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for seniors/students.
