UPDATE: Soquel Drive has reopened.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:

Westbound Soquel Drive at Cabrillo College is closed indefinitely after a trailer hauling an excavator struck a pedestrian bridge.

The collision occurred at about 12:30pm at Cabrillo College Drive. California Highway Patrol is advising motorists to avoid the area, and to use Perimeter Rd. and northbound Highway 1 as a detour.

No injuries were reported.

More than a dozen workers were working on repairing the bridge late Monday afternoon.

The pedestrian bridge will remain closed while officials assess its structural integrity, Cabrillo spokeswoman Kristin Fabos said.

Classes resume on Jan. 29.

  1. I arrived at our board of trustees meeting Monday about 430 pm, and it was still closed. our campus president, Matt Wetstein , told me the pedestrian bridge could be closed for months. this will create more work for students walking from the upper and lower campuses. this is a first for the campus, and an unwelcome one. we are glad no one was injured.

    • ST should be removed from the Cabrillo Board of Trustees. He is an unmitigated, self important, clueless fool.
