WATSONVILLE—The Watsonville Parks and Community Services (PCS) Department recently received a large grant to help rebuild the Muzzio Park playground that was burned down in early June.
GameTime, a national commercial playground manufacturer, will provide $15,000-37,000 on top of the $25,000 the City received in insurance for the leveled structure. The department also received a $4,000 grant from Pajaro Valley Prevention and Student Assistance.
The department will host a community input meeting on Nov. 20 from 6-7 p.m. at Muzzio Park’s community center to provide the public a few options for design, theme and features of the park.
“This grant…will give us the opportunity to construct something bigger and better than the previous playground,” PCS Director Nick Calubaquib said via email Tuesday.
Calubaquib said The Friends of Watsonville Parks and Community Services will also launch a small GoFundMe campaign to supplement the project.
Installation is set for Spring 2020.
