Applications for Committee on Policing and Social Equity open
WATSONVILLE—The City is forming an AD-HOC Committee on Policing and Social Equity, composed of City Council members, the Police Chief, City Manager, City Staff and community members, aiming to facilitate conversations that will inform the future of policing and community services in Watsonville.
Community members will submit an application and will be selected by the Council members. A total of 12 community members will be selected to participate on the Committee. The Committee will be a Brown Act Committee, with time and place accessible to the public. It will serve for a period of no more than 12 months, and Committee members will be expected to serve approximately 8-10 hours per month.

Bike Caravan to promote 2020 Census
WATSONVILLE—This Sunday at 2pm Bike Santa Cruz County will join the push to promote the 2020 Census with a special bike caravan event.
“Bee Counted Watsonville: Census Bike Caravan” will begin at 30 Harkins Slough Rd. Participants are encouraged to wear black and yellow (for the “bee” theme) and join the ride as a way to spread awareness about the 2020 Census. A bike raffle and free giveaways will also be available.
Registration begins at 12:30pm; participants can register online at eventbrite.com. All participants are required to wear masks, stay six feet apart, wash/sanitize their hands often and stay home if they are sick. Helmets are required.

City seeks input about carbon emissions plan
WATSONVILLE—The City of Watsonville is seeking public input on the 2030 Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP).
The City prepared its first Climate Action Plan in 2015 to reduce carbon emissions, and is now updating and expanding the plan to address the impacts of climate change and explore opportunities to remove carbon from the atmosphere and restore the natural environment.
As in-person engagements are not an option at this time, the City will be relying on online surveys, phone calls and door-to-door physically-distant interactions as a method to get community input on the CAAP. Newsweek recognizes Dominican for Maternity Care
SANTA CRUZ—Dignity Health Dominican Hospital has been designated as one of Newsweek’s Best Maternity Care Hospitals 2020.
The distinction is part of Newsweek’s new health care ratings series, Best Health Care. According to the magazine, this honor recognizes Dominican for its extraordinary service to mothers, newborns, and families in the community.
To compile the list, a panel of experts set rigorous requirements and reviewed key data. They looked for hospitals with low rates of C-section, episiotomy, and early elective deliveries, and that follow crucial protocols to protect mothers and babies.
