SANTA CRUZ—Santa Cruz police on Saturday arrested a San Jose man on numerous charges after a chase that led more than 10 miles through the northern reaches of the county.

Blanco

Albert Blanco, 38, was charged with carjacking and felony reckless evading. He was not in custody Monday, jail records showed.

SCPD officers on patrol saw a driver traveling at a high rate of speed in a vehicle that was reported stolen by a carjacking victim earlier that day.

Blanco did not stop, and the officers chased him from Santa Cruz southbound on Highway 1 to Capitola, then back northbound on Highway 1 to the Beach Flats neighborhood. Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office and CHP assisted SCPD in the pursuit that covered approximately 10.25 miles.

The suspect crashed at Cliff Street and Second Street, and then ran from the car as officers set up a perimeter. Blanco was arrested with the help of a K9 officer after fleeing through several yards.

Blanco later provided a statement to officers about how he stole the car.
