El Pajaro CDC accepting applications for business program

WATSONVILLE — El Pajaro Community Development Corporation is accepting applications for the Empresari@ program.

Empresari@ is a business education program where the participant is trained on the planning, marketing and managing of a business. Empresari@ is a 10-session training offered twice a year in Watsonville, Salinas and Hollister.

The spring program starts in February and it will be offered in Spanish and English.

The Empresari@ program offers:

• Ten-session training on planning, marketing and managing a business

• Assistance in analyzing your business idea

• Access to micro-loan programs to help start or improve your business

• One-on-one professional business consulting

• Business incubation

• Networking opportunities

The program cost is $250, with scholarships available to low- and moderate-income applicants.

Small business center offering seminars

APTOS — The Small Business Development Center at Cabrillo College is offering its 2019 Build Your Business Seminars and NextTalks Series.

Workshops are offered on a rotating schedule, covering a range of topics from business plans and recordkeeping, to social media, marketing and selling online.

NextTalks sessions are free and open to the public and Build Your Business Seminars require advanced registration and a $35 fee.

“Build Your Business Workshop: Writing Your Best Business Plan” will be held Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Cabrillo College, 6500 Soquel Drive, Room 1604, Aptos. This seminar will help business owners identify the most appropriate business planning format for starting or expanding a business, marketing basics, and a strategic plan. It will be led by Keith Holtaway, a 35-year entrepreneur and Santa Cruz County small business consultant.

“NextTalks: Business Basics for Nonprofits” is scheduled for Feb. 12 from noon to 1 p.m. at NextSpace Coworking, 101 Cooper St. in Santa Cruz. The session, led by Community Foundation Santa Cruz County CEO Susan True, will cover how to become and succeed as a nonprofit.
