BIG SUR — Emergency officials on Wednesday recovered a body near the area where a missing woman’s vehicle plunged off a cliff on Aug. 24 in Big Sur.

The Monterey County Coroner’s Office has not yet confirmed that the body is that of Capitola resident Kristen Kendall, who was reported missing after the crash.

Her vehicle, a burgundy 2015 Honda Civic, plunged 300 feet down the cliff one mile south of Esalen near milepost marker 32 in Big Sur.

A Monterey County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue drone confirmed the vehicle was unoccupied, and no blood was found inside when it was brought to the top.

CHP Monterey Area officers, CHP Helicopter-70, Coast Guard, Monterey County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue, Big Sur Fire Brigade and California State Parks have been looking for Kendall ever since.

Divers from the MCSO found the body in the ocean near where Kendall’s vehicle was recovered.

The Monterey County Coroner’s office will be releasing the name of the body found once an autopsy has been completed.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the traffic collision.
