OAKLAND—The Aptos High boys’ basketball team was eliminated by Oakland High in the opening round of the CIF NorCal Division III playoffs Tuesday.
Senior guard Cameron Saldana had 19 points for the No. 15 seeded Mariners who put up a fight until the final buzzer in a 56-50 loss to No. 2 Oakland High.
Senior center Jack Spinelli added 10 points for Aptos (22-6), which had a 16-9 lead over the Wildcats at the end of the first quarter.
They were tied at 24-all going into halftime and the Mariners retook the lead, 38-32, going into the final stanza.
The Wildcats came storming back in the fourth quarter and built a 10 point lead with less than three minutes left in the game. They never looked back and held on for the win over Aptos.
Softball
North Monterey County 11, North Salinas 0: Ame Visesio was spot-on in the circle for the Condors in a shutout win against the Vikings in non-league action Thursday.
Leslie Ruiz finished with multiple hits including a home run for the NMC. Johana Alonzo also had multiple hits and Gaby Holmes added three RBIs.
Men’s basketball
San Francisco 79, Cabrillo 69: Austin James scored 15 points for the Seahawks in their loss to the No. 1 seeded Rams in the second round of the California Community College Athletic Association NorCal Regional playoffs Thursday.
Cainan Wright added 10 points for Cabrillo (18-12), which was the co-runner-up in the Coast Conference’s South Division.
Jamir Thomas scored a game-high 23 points including five 3-pointers for City College of San Francisco.
NBA G League
Warriors 109, Kings 99: The Santa Cruz Warriors extended its winning streak to three-straight after beating the Stockton Kings on Wednesday night at Stockton Arena.
Warriors guard Jerome Robinson finished with a game-high 28 points and added six rebounds.
The teams battled back-and-forth in the first half and they went through 15 lead changes. The Warriors had a slim one-point lead, 62-61, going into halftime.
Robinson scored the first five points for Santa Cruz and tallied 16 in the first half.
Santa Cruz led throughout the third quarter and quickly extended it to as many as 14 points early in the final stanza. The Kings finished the game on a 7-2 run but the Warriors held off to earn the win.
Warriors two-way guard Quinndary Weatherspoon battled inside the paint to add 21 points. Forward LJ Figueroa was a big contributor off the bench, recording a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Kings guards Quinn Cook and Sheldon Mac each finished with a team-best 15 points, and two-way center Neemias Queta also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The Warriors (9-12) return to Kaiser Permanente Arena tonight at 7pm in what will be the first game of a back-to-back homestand against the Memphis Hustle.
