APTOS — Thanks to technology local residents will get a taste of a moon visit in a portable planetarium that will come to Aptos Saturday.
The event, put on by former Hartnell College planetarium educator Andy Kreyche and his mobile gadget known as Dome-on-the-Go, invites the public to travel off planet to learn about lunar exploration on the 50th Anniversary of the first moon landing.
“I started a portable planetarium business and have been focused mainly on doing school shows, with other private events,” Kreyche said on his website. “But part of my motivation for having a portable planetarium based where I live instead of commuting to jobs elsewhere (De Anza and Hartnell Colleges, respectively) was to bring the experience to the entire community.”
So on Friday, at Louden Nelson Center in Santa Cruz, and Saturday, at the UU Fellowship in Aptos, Kreyche will be giving public planetarium programs to commemorate the anniversary of the first moon landing.
The presentation is entirely put together from Kreyche’s research and is “from my own point of view.”
“I try to make the show interactive and entertaining,” he said.
The dome is handicapped accessible. The 45-minute program is geared for ages 7 and up.
The Aptos show takes place at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. at 6401 Freedom Blvd. and the Santa Cruz show runs at the same times at 310 Center St.
