Sally Sadako Mitani (nee Oshita) passed away peacefully on September 9, 2018.

Born in 1924 in Salinas, Sally attended Monterey and Salinas high schools until World War II started. Interned at Poston, Arizona, the family returned to the Los Angeles area upon the end of the war where she met her husband Don Mitani.

Married in 1950, Don and Sally shortly thereafter moved to Castroville, where Don pursued a career in agriculture with Sally’s two brothers, Frank (Kaz) and Jack (Tak). While helping Don establish his career, they moved to Watsonville, where Sally as a homemaker and wife raised their three sons.

Sally was a wonderful mother always involved and helping with her son’s activities. After Don’s retirement she enjoyed shopping with friends, traveling with Don to near and far destinations and enjoying her grandchildren. Unfortunately her last years were taken by a long struggle with dementia.

Sally was preceded in death by her husband Don.

She is survived by her three sons, Mark (Rita), John (Sally) and David (Terri), her beloved grandchildren Kenji (Kristine), Zachary, Scott, Katie and great-granddaughter Ryo.

Private family services will be held in Salinas. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Memory Care Villa Serra/Sunrise and Bridge Hospice.

The Family requests to please consider a donation in Sally’s memory to either the Buddhist Temple of Salinas, Watsonville Buddhist Temple or to your favorite charity
