Watsonville High, St. Francis High, Pajaro Valley High and Monte Vista Christian duked it out at the inaugural Apple City Jamboree on Friday night at Emmett M. Geiser Field.

The jamboree was a round-robin affair, meaning all four teams played one another in previews for upcoming matchups.

Watsonville and Pajaro Valley are set to square off in the 12th edition of the Belgard Kup Game next week back at Geiser Field, and the competitive juices were already flowing between the two teams.

Watsonville also got a peek of what St. Francis had to offer. The two squads are slated to meet at Geiser Field on Sept. 7. It will be the first game between the two Watsonville teams since 2011.

St. Francis also got a look at Pajaro Valley’s defense, a unit the Sharks will see plenty of on Aug. 31 at Cabrillo College.

Monte Vista Christian showcased a plethora of athletic weapons that new coach Jubenal Rodriguez will have to work with in his Wing-T offense.

M.V.C. junior quarterback Nate Renggli was as comfortable as could be throughout the night. It was an impressive feat, considering Friday was his first varsity action.

Watsonville junior quarterback Oscar Magaña also made his varsity debut. He was a soothing voice in the huddle, and made a couple of nice throws in the passing game, too.

Pajaro Valley senior quarterback Max Arevalo was impressed by his entire team, including senior running back Russel Pablo.

St. Francis senior defensive back and wingback Andrew Seymour made several big plays on offense and defense. The two-way standout highlighted his team’s fight in the face of adversity.
