WATSONVILLE — A woman who was struck by a car at the intersection of Airport Boulevard and Holm Road last week is still in critical condition as of Monday evening.
The victim, now identified as 26-year-old Celestine Glover, was walking through a crosswalk on her way to work when she was hit by a car and severely injured on April 4.
She remains at Stanford ICU, still unconscious with a number of serious injuries.
According to Glover’s mother, Mitsuno Baurmeister, her daughter had been scheduled for surgery Monday, but it had to be postponed due to additional complications.
“She’s such a sweet, special girl,” Baurmeister said. “And her life was just changed in a matter of seconds. It’s just awful.”
According to Watsonville Police, the driver of the vehicle was distracted by his cell phone’s navigation program.
Baurmeister said she is seeking changes to the dangerous intersection in Watsonville. Glover is a frequenter on public transportation, and when certain bus drivers found out about the collision, they rallied around the family.
“We don’t want this to happen to anyone else,” Baurmeister said. “We’re asking everyone to reach out, contact their legislators, and demand something be done.”
Baurmeister expressed her gratitude to the medical staff at Stanford ICU, who she says have been “working tirelessly” to tend to her daughter.
“We’re counting every little positive thing we can,” she said, “and clinging to them with all we have.”
