Carl Melvin Sprague, Jr., formerly from Aptos, CA, died unexpectedly while Christmas shopping with his family in Lewiston, Idaho on December 13, 2017 at the age of 73.
Carl is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sherrie Sprague; daughters, Sharlene (Robert) Mitchell and Deanna Nelson; grandchildren, Dylan and Tanner Mitchell, and Zachary and Chloe Nelson; sister, Caroline Sand; brother David Sprague; and brother Mark Sprague. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl Melvin Sprague, Sr. and Martha Lois (Cughan) Sprague; and his sister, Mary Jean Shearhart.
Carl was born on November 19, 1944 in Syracuse, New York to Carl and Martha. He graduated from UC Berkeley in 1971 with a Bachelors Degree in Zoology and Physical Science. He married Sherrie Jackson, his college sweetheart on May 15, 1965. In a long and illustrious career from which he never fully retired, Carl taught high school math and science; served as director of Public Relations, Marketing and Enrollment for Western Baptist Bible College (now Corban University); served as director of Business and Development and interim Superintendent for Kings Garden Ministries (now Crista Ministries); joint owner of three thriving Karmelkorn Shoppes; and founder and president of PacCom Management Services.
Carl’s favorite times of the year were deer season and Christmas. He loved nothing more than giving his family, friends and neighbors a good old-fashioned Christmas with good food, presents, games, hunting stories and heartfelt celebration of Christ’s birth. Always working, always loving, always giving.
Carl’s life will be remembered on Saturday, February 10th at Twin Lakes Church (2701 Cabrillo College Drive, Aptos) at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Corban University in Salem, OR, or Crista Ministries in Seattle, WA.
