WATSONVILLE — Richard “Dick” Beilby died at his home in Watsonville on Friday, June 16, 2017, after a brief battle with cancer. He was 79. 

A native of Watsonville, he graduated from Watsonville High School in 1955. He married Barbara Hansen in 1960, and they spent the next 55 years together until her death in 2015. Mr. Beilby worked in sales for Gallo Wines for 36 years.

In his earlier years, he was involved with competitive skating. Mr. Beilby loved his native Pajaro Valley. He would be frequently seen on his daily excursions on the backroads of the county.  He also enjoyed jazz, fishing, motorcycles, and car racing of any variety.

Mr. Beilby is survived by his two daughters,  Michelle Gonzales and Carol McGrath; his step-children, Don Maggetti, Bob and Scott Hansen, Christy Simon, and Midge Ann Maggetti; brother, David Beilby; sisters, Diane Williams and Dolores French; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Thursday, July 6 at 1 p.m. at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel. A reception will follow at Bay Village Clubhouse on Bronte Street.
