Raising voices for pancreatic cancer
An inaugural pancreatic cancer support concert has been set for Nov. 19 at Bargetto Winery in Soquel. The one-night event features Uma Dobia, a popular Australian singer who will perform opera and show tunes.
Marina Thomas, a Watsonville pianist, will be the accompanist. The evening opens with Santa Cruz pianist Jasper Garrett who will offer his mix of jazz and original compositions.
November is Pancreatic Awareness Month which is an annual global healthcare event. The Nov. 19 evening will support Santa Cruz residents who are suffering from pancreatic cancer, to honor those who have passed, and to raise funds for support and cures.
This year’s theme is “It’s About Time,” which aims to transform pancreatic cancer into a curable disease and eventually wipe it out. It denotes the urgency to spread awareness of the disease and the need for advocacy for early detection screening.
Tickets include seasonal appetizers, desserts, Bargetto wine and mead, Martinelli juices and sparkling waters.
Doors open at 5pm and the concert runs from 6-7:30pm. Dessert, tea, coffee, wine and mead follows from 7:30-8pm.
Aptos Chamber relocates
The Aptos Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center has relocated to the Aptos Gateway Center, 9515 Soquel Drive, Suite 101.

Small claims workshop scheduled
Santa Cruz Superior Court’s Self Help Center and Small Claims Advisor Program will hold a virtual small claims workshop on Nov. 14 at 6pm.
This workshop is held via Zoom and will go over the basics of how the Small Claims process works.

Aromas Holiday Festival is Nov. 18-19
Aromas Hills Artisans are inviting the public to the 2023 Aromas Holiday Festival, taking place 10am-4pm Nov. 18-19 at the Aromas Grange, 400 Rose Ave.
This year’s show will include handmade artwork and creations, and artists will be present to show and explain their latest works.
The event will include 30 arts and crafts booths, music by Jesse Martinez and free workshops taught by AHA members. AHA artists will showcase their artwork, paintings, carvings, jewelry, pottery, greeting cards, glassware, succulents, photographs, Ukrainian painted eggs and more.
Admission is free. Food and drinks will be available for sale. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase up until a drawing scheduled for 2pm Nov. 19. Proceeds from the raffle will support the Aromas Hills Artisans Guild, a nonprofit philanthropic organization that promotes arts education through community events and workshops.
The AHA organization provides scholarships to members, enabling them to attend classes to develop their artistic abilities.
