Help clean up Aldridge Lane County Park

A volunteer beautification day will be held at Aldridge Lane County Park, 20 Aldridge Lane in Corralitos, on Saturday from 10am to 1pm.

Participants will be served refreshments and hot dogs donated by Corralitos Market. Come ready to paint and remove weeds around the park. Bring tools and gloves if you have them, otherwise, tools and supplies will be available.

Watsonville High Class of 1953 announces 70th reunion

The Watsonville High School Class of 1953 will hold its 70th reunion on Aug. 3 from noon to 4pm at the Seacliff Inn By Hilton, 7500 Old Dominion Court in Aptos.

The committee is hosting the luncheon and bar for all students, spouses or companions. For anyone wishing to stay at the inn, reservations may be made at 688.7300.

Courtney named Watsonville Rotary president

At its weekly meeting on June 28, the Watsonville Rotary Club transitioned into new leadership. 

Michael Jones, who guided the club during the past fiscal year, handed the baton to Gil Courtney, a club member since 1988. 

Change in leadership is an annual event for the service club which has donated significant support in funding of scholarships and charitable contributions for many organizations in the Watsonville community. Newly installed President Courtney pledges to continue the club’s well-known traditions.

Obon Festival is July 16

The Watsonville Obon Festival returns to the Watsonville Buddhist Temple, 423 Bridge St., on July 16 at noon.

Obon is a Japanese holiday that commemorates deceased ancestors.

The festival will feature food, children’s games, vendors and more, with a performance by Watsonville Taiko at 3pm and traditional Japanese dances at 4pm.
