Local filmmakers are invited to participate in the two free remaining workshops presented by the Watsonville Film Festival to encourage regional filmmaking.
The new “Cine Se Puede Summer Series” supports BIPOC filmmakers with pre-production and production resources for their projects. Participants will learn about how to fund their films and build their crews.
The sessions are open to filmmakers in Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito counties and registration is required.
Tonight (June 29), filmmaker and WFF Artist Development Lead Brenda Avila-Hanna will present ways to fund and advance film projects through grants, fellowships and labs at 5:30pm online. She will highlight funding organizations, especially those focusing on opportunities for BIPOC creators, and share tips on what makes an application, project and applicant stand out to reviewers. Participants will be able to access a curated list of grant/fellowship opportunities for those who sign up to be a part of the Watsonville Film Festival’s filmmaker’s network.
The July 1 session, Find Your Crew, will take place in-person at the Porter Building at 5:30pm. Filmmaker Eugenia Rentería will talk about practices for assembling a small but effective crew on a tight budget by maximizing locations, time and local connections. Rentería will offer individual 15-minute consultations by request prior to July 1.
