SANTA CRUZ—A Santa Cruz woman was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of using social media to sell vape products and alcohol to minors.
Martha Espinoza, 41, was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail, but was not in custody on Thursday morning, jail records showed.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Alcohol and Tobacco Compliance Unit, with the assistance of the Special Enforcement Team, conducted a search of Espinoza’s residence on the 2500 block of Soquel Avenue. There, they found close to an ounce of methamphetamine and an extensive amount of alcohol and vape products.
Investigators also found evidence that she was selling these items to minors.
In a social media post, the Sheriff’s Office warned that vape products—which deliver concentrated doses of nicotine—are harmful and highly addictive, despite widespread belief they are not.
“The vape products that were seized are enough for more than 1,120,000 puffs from the vape devices,” the post says.
