SAN JOSE—Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies on Thursday arrested a San Jose man suspected of a fatal shooting that occurred on June 14.

Albaro Amaral, 30, was charged with murder and attempted murder. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Main Jail in lieu of $1 million bail, jail records showed.

Deputies responded to reports of a man with a gun on the 1700 block of Laurel Road and Highway 17 around 8pm on June 14. There, they found 27-year-old Kevin Medina-Lopez, who was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.

Detectives also found there were two additional victims Amaral attempted to shoot, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Ashley Keehn said.

Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies worked with the San Jose Police Department in making the arrest, Keehn said.
