CAPITOLA—A man and woman suffered major injuries in a solo-vehicle crash Sunday evening in Capitola.

Capitola Police Detective Sgt. Cliff Sloma said the crash occurred at 5:11 p.m. on the 600 block on Park Avenue. Their car reportedly struck a tree and caught on fire.

The man and woman, who have not been identified, were rushed to Dominican Hospital where they were both flown by medical helicopters to an out-of-county trauma center.

Sloma said it appears that alcohol played a role in the crash. Central Fire was the primary fire rescue crew. The California Highway Patrol assisted with traffic control.

The incident is still under investigation.
